Saint Leo Occupational Safety and Health

Joe Petersen works at a local automobile dealership. He is 57 years old and suffers from arthritis. His boss, Joann Demeter, has Joe working in the Shipping, Receiving, and Inventory section. This section of the dealership is quite small and much of the storage of bulk material is located off in another building, in an upstairs section, with low ceiling beams. The area has no climate control. Joe is repeatedly tasked to carry up to 300 cases of oil filters up the stairs to the storage area, in temperatures that often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Joe finally tells Joann that he cannot carry such large numbers of items up to the overly hot area any more. He refuses because of the pain it causes his ankles, knees, and hips. He also states that the excessive heat is debilitating and he fears heat exhaustion or stroke. Ms. Demeter threatens to fire Joe. They both decide to go see the dealership manager with the HR representative present.

Provide an analysis of the case:

1. Discuss possibilities and address the areas of concern as seen from an HR perspective.

2. Answer the following questions:

·As the HR representative, what would you advise? Why?

·Are there any procedures you would instigate to improve the health of affected employees? Be specific.

Answer the following questions: Explain the rock cycle. What did you find the most useful property to identify your minerals? What was different about the components of your conglomerate and granite? What was similar between your limestone and marble? What was different between your sandstone and quartzite? Describe the differences between the conglomerate, sandstone, and shale. What is similar and what is different about your granite and gneiss?

Part 2: Geologic time

Relative dating methods:

Using the diagram below, and the rules of relative dating, answer the following questions. Which unit was being deposited when the fault happened? Explain why the funny line between units 3 and 4 is a disconformity, and not an angular unconformity. Hypothetically, if the trees and ground at the top were covered by the ocean, and deposition resumed, what type of unconformity would be above unit 12, and why? Would unit 11 likely to be present when the fault happened? Why or why not? Explain why units 1-5 were not deposited in this position. In some areas, faults are known to act as a petroleum trap. If unit 2 has oil, and unit 3 is shale, what part of unit 2 would you drill into, above or below the fault, and why?

Radiometric dating:

Answer the following questions. In order to ascertain useful dates on rock units to help determine the age of major events. Your mission is to date what is thought to be a very old fossil with a volcanic ash layer immediately above the fossil. We do know the fossil is at least more than 300 million years old. Should we use carbon 14 to date the fossil, or uranium 238 to date the volcanic ash layer, and why? We find samples of an igneous rock demonstrate it has been through 3 half-lives. The test element has a half-life of 300 million years. How old is the rock? If the parent isotope starts with 100 grams, but your samples yield only 6.25 grams of the parent isotope, how many half-lives have passed? What unstable isotope would be best to refine the date of bones found in a cave hearth built by humans between 20,000 and 40,000 years ago? Argue with the following: A stone tool fashioned from a chunk of obsidian yields a date of 3,000,000 years old, therefore, the tool was made by a human 3,000,000 years ago.

report on setting up your own business

Description: The purpose of this project is to help you evaluate some of the decisions that prospective business owners need to make by setting up a business of your choice. Before you start, however, I strongly advise that you conduct some independent research over the Internet at the secretary of state’s office in the state in which you plan to establish your business. You can usually start with a Google search that uses terms such as “your state name, secretary of state corporation forms.” Your search will usually result in information for setting up business entities in the state you have chosen. You will use this information to prepare your written report described under the instructions. Instructions

1. Prepare a written report that contains the following information about your new business: a. Name of your company/business b. Be sure to use the proper ending in your name to show your type of business entity, e.g., corporation, LLC, LLP, etc. c. State in which you are forming your business d. Brief description of what your business does e. Explain why you selected the type of business entity you chose f. This explanation should be based on independent research that compares various business entity types g. At a minimum, you should discuss the following issues: i. Ease and cost of creation (you should be able to determine this at the secretary of state’s website for the state in which you plan to establish your business) ii. Owners and ease of transferring ownership interests iii. Liability iv. Duration v. How will profits be taxed Page 2 of 2 h. A list of at least three properly formatted references i. One of your references can be your text

2. Prepare an annotated outline of an operational document for your business entity

3. An annotated outline is more than an outline that uses key words, but not the same as a fully completed document

4. I don’t want you to simply cut and paste a set of corporate bylaws or an operating agreement into this component of your Final Project

5. Rather than using key words in your outline, you will write a description of what you are proposing in outline form, but do not write the final language

6. Your operational document should address the following topics, but may include other subjects you think are important for your business: a. Describe the business managers/officers with subtopics concerning number of managers, how they are elected, how they are removed, and duties b. Meeting schedule for owners and managers with subtopics concerning when notice of the meeting must be sent, whether actions can be taken without a meeting (explain how), and the quorum and voting requirements for a meeting c. General provisions related to the following topics: i. Who must sign company contracts and checks ii. Policy concerning gifts to various stakeholders iii. General employment safety policy iv. General environmental policy v. Statement concerning ethical behavior, decision making, and social responsibility of the company owner(s), manager(s), and employee(s) d. BUS445 Ashford University Week 3 Process Management Tools Discussion

Additional guidance:

Good work with your discussions. You are showing a great deal of knowledge and critical thought with your responses. Continue to use the text to provide you the operational definition of the concepts you discuss. When you define the topic, you can use the definition to guide you to the correct response.

Just like the previous discussions, it is much easier if you choose a specific management process to explain the role suppliers and inputs have. The field is so broad, if you do not choose a specific process, you will get lost in a vague, overgeneralized explanation of nothing.

It is a best practice to use an example in your area of expertise. Send me a note if you require assistance.

project 3 L

A basic component of academic research is the Annotated Bibliography, which is a list of all of the sources you have found during your research so far, and that you may use in whatever project you are working on. My goal for this assignment is to gather all the sources you are going to use for your Project 3.

The Annotated Bibliography is a list of the sources you have found so far. This is an extension of the research you did last week. The list is in alphabetical order as it would be on your Works Cited page, and includes a full citation for each source as it would appear on your Works Cited page. However, in addition, an Annotated Bibliography includes an annotation for each source, which is basically a summary of the source and some commentary on why the source is useful to your project. Include an annotation for each source you have collected so far.

OWL at Purdue is a great resource to check out for more information and guidance on how to create an Annotated Bibliography: Annotated (Links to an external site.) Bibliographies // Purdue Writing Lab (Links to an external site.)

The purpose of the Annotated Bibliography is to motivate you to evaluate your research sources, and to begin thinking about how they might fit together in your paper. In addition, this assignment asks you to put together your Works Cited page citations now, so that you’re not scrambling to do them at the last minute.

This assignment also helps give me a clearer sense of where you are headed with your Research Essay so that I can better advise you and help you generate ideas. It also allows me to identify any problems with your controversy or sources early on.Minimum Requirements

This assignment must fulfill the following requirements:Include at least five sources. (These sources will include the two you found last week unless you no longer wish to use them in your paper. If you need help researching these sources, please reach out to me.)These five sources must be a mix of peer-reviewed and popular sources. At least three of them must be a peer-reviewed source. If you have questions about if a source is peer-reviewed, here is handy handout to help you: PeerReviewed.pdf Include a full Works Cited page citation, formatted in MLA format, for each source. To figure out how to do this, use the instructions on OWL at Purdue’s site.Include a clear summary of each research source: Explain what it is about so that I can get a sense of the article, text, video, source you are using. Here you will want to clearly state the main argument or point and explain some of the topics and supporting reasons focused on in the text.Include commentary on why the source is useful and what kind of evidence it adds to your project. Does it add a particular perspective or type of evidence? Explain why you are including it.At the end of your list of sources, explain what you think your argument is about your topic (book or movie, book and movie) or include your working thesis. Then, explain the connections you are beginning to see between your sources and how you are currently imagining they will be used together in your paper. This should be at least a paragraph or two long, maybe even three. Each annotation should be around 150-300 words long.Sample Entry from an Annotated Bibliography

Here is an example of a single entry from an Annotated Bibliography. Your will have a list of at least 5 of these, plus the 2-3 paragraphs of explanation of your plan for the essay. As you can see, first comes the Works Cited page citation information for the source. Directly below the citation is an annotation of the sources—a brief summary plus how it’s useful.

McNamee, Tom. “Ida B Wells – Big and Bad.” Chicago Sun Times. 7 Dec. 1986. Web. 8 Jan. 2009.

McNamee explains the poor living conditions of the Ida B. Wells housing project and makes the implicit argument that several factors contribute to the problems experienced by the area. He uses several different sources of information to support his argument. He describes the area and the buildings’ condition; interviews residents and experts on the history of Chicago public housing; describes how the lay-out and design of the buildings affect the community; and explains how gang violence, vandalism, crime and a culture of poverty all contribute to the area’s problems. McNamee’s overall purpose seems to be to inform readers of the terrible living conditions experienced by residents and to identify the major factors contributing to the situation. This source provides a general overview of the problems in the Ida B Wells, some background on the area, as well as essential statistics about the project and the people living there. It will be useful both for that kind of factual information as well as for McNamee’s explanations of where these problems have come from.

Campbellsville University Coca Cola Company Research Paper
