Reaction Paper: As part of your demonstration of evidenced-based writing in APA style format, you will be writing a course paper to critique a topic of gender bias, stereotype, or myth
Requirements for reaction paper. Theme for the paper: Choose one of the topics in the text (such as bias in researching sex and gender, gender stereotypes of masculinity or femininity, or a myth about men and their emotions) which appears not only dated but also takes the simplistic, maximalist, and biological views, glosses over complex research, and/or strives for sweeping generalizations that highlight the differences between women’s and men’s brains, emotions, and/or behavior. Then, critique the presentation of information in that topic. Go beyond the information presented by asking, “What did they omit or overlook in coming to this conclusion?” In finding this information, students should gather material that would allow a “point-counterpoint” type of written reaction (e.g., for one research conclusion of a brain-based gender difference, does other evidence exist that this conclusion is not so clear?). Other requirements include:
(2) Useevidenced-basedresearch(aminimumof5research-based)citationstosupportyour topic(use
the Required Text and Recommended Websites sections in the syllabus).
(4) Citations must conform to American Psychological Association (APA) Style, 6th Edition
(6) Theindividualchangespaperistobethreepagesoftext(EXCLUDING:titleandreferencepages). (7) Please,noplasticcovers.
**Rules for writing the reaction paper. I expect all work that you turn in to be your own, original for this Psychology 419 course, well written, carefully proofread, and well-referenced (citations to research/theorytosupportyourideas).Yourpapershouldincludenomorethan5%“quoted” material. As a general rule of thumb, a double-spaced page consists of about 25 lines of text with one inch margins. Iexpectnomorethananaverageofonetooneandahalflinesoftextinquotesperpage. Myfocuson grading papers is to evaluate your writing (please see Psychology Writing Rubric for Reaction Paper Outcome for further information of scoring and its relation to achievement of the requirements), not someone else’s. An examination of published research will show that most articles use quotes sparingly, if at all.

FinCorp is a mid-size financial company. A couple of years ago FinCorp decided to establish a full-fledged EA practice to accommodate with the growing problems around non-transparency of its IT investments and poor business and IT alignment in general. In order to boost its EA initiative, the company decided to purchase a specialized software tool for enterprise architecture. For this purpose, its IT leaders studied the available offerings on the EA tool market, contacted most promising vendors, organized meetings with vendor representatives and listened to their presentations. As a result, FinCorp had selected and acquired a rather powerful and expensive tool for enterprise architecture from a well-known vendor. Then, the company had installed and configured the tool, established a central repository for storing architectural information and sent its architecture team to a special training supplied by the tool vendor. After the training, architects had documented most areas of the organizational IT landscape and associated business processes in the EA repository and started to update this information to keep it current. Architects were also impressed with the modeling, visualization and analytical capabilities offered by their new EA tool.
However, FinCorp's CIO is pretty skeptical towards the chosen EA tool. He believes that the company is only wasting money on the tool as it is essentially nothing more than a sophisticated repository of current-state information. Furthermore, the tool is used by only 4-5 people in the entire organization (all architects), does not facilitate informed decision-making among business stakeholders in any sense and does not contribute to achieving the original objectives of the EA initiative to improve business and IT alignment.
