Socw 6111: Transference and Countertransference

Specific skills and knowledge are essential for a social worker working with children. Understanding transference and countertransference is crucial to a healthy therapeutic relationship. Both transference and countertransference can be evident in any client–therapist relationship, but are especially important in working with children because of a common instinct among adults to protect and nurture the young. The projection or relocation of one’s feelings about one person onto another, otherwise known as transference, is a common response by children (Gil, 1991). Countertransference, a practitioner’s own emotional response to a child, is also common.

For this Discussion, review the Malawista (2004) article.

By Day 4

Post your explanation why transference and countertransference are so common when working with children. Then, identify some strategies you might use to address both transference and countertransference in your work with children.

The Community As Your Client

The differences between macro, mezzo, and micro-level social work have been characterized as interactions along a continuum, rather than distinct and separate. At times, practitioners may find themselves balancing multiple responsibilities including counselor, advocate, consultant, facilitator, and advisor. In this forum, consider your area of practice (or where you would like to practice) and discuss how you, as a critical thinking professional, view your potential for transforming the social, political, and economic environment to be more productive and responsive to the needs of clients, their families, and their communities.

post should be at least 200-250 words in length.

Socw 6301: Comparison between Qualitative Research and Quantitative Research Methodology

At this point, you have likely made a preliminary decision about whether a quantitative or qualitative approach would be best for your proposed study. The research question you developed likely points one way or the other. However, this Discussion is your opportunity to revisit the methodology and research question and explicitly articulate which would be most appropriate.

Also, as researchers begin to make final decisions about methodological approach and research question, they must then consider if any cultural issues might emerge related to these choices. For example, suppose a social worker planned to use a computer-based survey in a low socioeconomic area where many people are without Internet service, or a social worker chose a quantitative approach to investigate a very small marginalized population. What implications do these choices have for the population and for the study? In this Discussion, in addition to reviewing your research question and approach, you consider the cultural sensitivity of these elements.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Learning Resources on qualitative research, considering how it compares to quantitative research methodology.

By Day 3

Identify three ways in which qualitative and quantitative research differ. After reviewing these approaches, which is a good fit for your study and why? Be sure to include your research question in your response. Based on the methodological approach for your study, how will you ensure that your approach is culturally sensitive?

Please use the Learning Resources to support your post (i.e., cite and reference).

Socw 6500: Agency Presentation

This week, you work outward from the micro to the mezzo when focusing on community contexts of practice. Next week, you extend further into the characteristics of macro practice when engaging more fully with how a social work agency’s mission may relate to a social problem. In your identification and analysis of community context this week, perhaps you see connections between these various features of practice?

For this next Discussion in the Agency Presentation sequence, recall that you upload the indicated slide from your Agency Presentation for comparison and online Discussion this week, as well as possible Synchronous Video Conference Meeting Discussion next week.

To Prepare

  • Note the additional required prompts in this week’s Discussion that vary from the previous Agency Presentation postings.
  • Review the Week 9 Assignment instructions.
  • Develop the slide for the Week 9 Assignment, focusing on the agency’s mission statement and how that connects to a social problem.
    • Recall that the goal of the Agency Presentation is to examine the characteristics of your agency in reference to the field of social work and the types of services offered to clients.
  • Note: Your complete Week 9 Final Project submission requires a reference page. Be sure to continue compiling your reference list before your final submission next week.

By Day 3

  • Upload the slide from your Agency Presentation that relates to how the agency’s mission statement connects to a social problem.
  • Identify other organizations, in the community, that also address this problem.
  • Identify challenges to meeting the needs of the community faced by your agency and the ways in which your agency meets those challenges.
  • Does your agency have to refer clients to organizations outside your community? Why?

Personal Conceptual Précis

1.The precis should be a minimum of 500 words.

2.Be sure to type your name, course number and section (400 or 401) at the top of the page. Type the précis number: Precis 1, 2, etc. and the date.

3.In a single sentence give the following:a.Name of author (if any), or title of the article, affiliation;b.Use an accurate verb (such as ‘asserts’, ‘describes’, ‘proves’, etc.)c.Followed by a that clause describing the core pointof the work (ex., Jane Goodall asserts that Global Warming is irrefutable)

4.The second sentence explains how the authors develop and support their major claim(s).

5.The third sentence gives a statement of the author’s purpose, followed by an in orderphrase. (ex., Jane Goodall, an ardent environmentalist, describes the major causes of global warming in order for decision makers to become aware of the problem and take action.)

6.The next paragraph should contain your personal conceptual Précis and contain the following:a.A clear statement of the significance and impact that the article had for you. “Liking” or not liking the text is irrelevant.b.Statement of some of your reasons that explain why (or why not) this article had some significance for you.c.What other people may think about the data/concepts put forward in this article, and how this differs or aligns with your interpretation. Do not leave this out or you will not receive a full grade.

Laboratory Introduction And Scientific Approaches

Week 1 Laboratory Introduction and Scientific Approaches

Previous Next

Week 1 For Week 1, you have read and learned about the basic principles of scientific research, evaluating information sources, key features of a science laboratory, laboratory staff (personnel), and management/leadership skills. In this discussion, you will explore scenarios that bring these Week 1 concepts together in an attempt to gain a deeper appreciation for the inter-relatedness of these concepts.
STEP 1: Choose **one** of the scenarios described below. Title your Subject line with the scenario title.
STEP 2: Explain how specific concepts that you learned this week apply to the scenario.
• (a) Clearly explain how at least three distinct (3) concepts from the Week 1 readings and resources are relevant to the scenario. Be specific about the concepts. For example, specific concepts might be hypothesis testing, the peer review process, or time management. (Do not use these three in your answer.)
• (b) Clearly define and explain terms that you incorporate from the readings and resources. STEP 3: Summarize how the three concepts relate to each other in the chosen scenario.
IMPORTANT: There are many concepts addressed in the Week 1 readings and resources. There is no reason for you to choose to address the same three concepts as any one of your classmates. Duplicated content will not receive full credit for this Week 1 Discussion.
SCENARIO 1: Michael dropped a beaker of a hazardous liquid on the laboratory floor and toxic fumes immediately began emanating from the liquid. Nico, the laboratory manager yelled at Michael, using profanity and called him derogatory names.
SCENARIO 2: Tiana works at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Larry works at Diagnostics Inc. They need to hire staff for both labs to conduct a set of planned experiments to ultimately develop a product that will prevent vector-borne illnesses due to insect bites.
SCENARIO 3: Kim made several field observations about the growth of bacterial cultures in New York Harbor. She developed a hypothesis about the factors that impact the growth of the bacteria, and she plans to test her hypothesis by conducting three separate experiments.
SCENARIO 4: Sherry argued that TopNewsScience.com provided her with the most insightful and current research news that anyone could possibly need. Pardeep doubted this and began to research the .com and to contrast it with what he knew about the quality of research published in peer-reviewed journals.
SCENARIO 5: Harper, a laboratory manager at Symbronic Technologies Inc,  checks on the progress for lab technician Laurie weekly and on the progress for lab technician David bi-weekly. Both Laurie and David had been collecting quality data and meeting their deadlines for more than two years.

Oppressions

My topic is Covid-19

  • What evidence exist to demonstrate that the group is Oppressed? Lost jobs, Death rates, Eviction, Medical bill.
  • What are the group’s specific challenges? Strengths? Challenges are social connection, wearing masks, tested, lost jobs, storage of supplies. Strengths are family, stimulus money, unemployment money, food stamp more money in a month.
  • What caused the oppression? The cause for Covid-19 is unknown currently. The first report of the virus came from Wuhan, China dated back in December of 2019 and spreading west. The first known case reported the U.S January 2020 (Bowser, 2021).
  • What factors impacted the state of oppression? Can you look this one up for me please.
  • What makes this group unique?  2 weeks for a person to develop symptoms after being exposed to the virus. Within that time infected people without symptoms are more likely to infect others without knowing (Madison, 2020). Different rounds of the virus. Different types- MERS and SARS.
  • What are the risks, protective, and resilient factors?

Risks- Individuals with conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure are more at risk of death due to covid-19.

Some protective factors of covid-19 include social distancing, wearing face masks, and avoiding social gatherings.

The resilient factors include communication and social support. Supporting individuals affected by covid-19 in the community ensures proper health and eliminate discrimination against them.

  • What has the oppressed group done to overcome the oppression? Vaccination.
