Human Services Organizations as Systems

Human Services Organizations as Systems

Social workers use the person-in-environment approach to understand the relationship between individuals and their physical and social environments. This ecological perspective is a framework that is based on concepts associated with systems theory. Systems theory guides social workers when they assess how factors in the environment such as school, work, culture, and social policy impact the individual. Although social workers commonly use the systems approach to focus on the individual, they may apply this approach to human services organizations as well. Human services organizations exist within the context of the social, economic, and political environments, and any type of change in one aspect of the environment will influence the organization’s internal and external functioning.

For this Assignment, consider how administrators of human services organizations may apply systems theory in their work. Also, consider what you have discovered about the roles of leadership and management and how these contribute to an organization’s overall functioning.

Assignment (3 pages in APA format): Explain how systems theory can help administrators understand the relationships between human services organizations and their environments. Provide specific examples of ways administrators might apply systems theory to their work. Finally, explain how leadership and management roles within human services organizations contribute to their overall functioning

Maintaining The Loyalty Of Stakeholders

To maintain political, governmental, staff, and patient loyalty, the healthcare organization must provide a sense of organizational stability and view of the legislative landscape. In Chapters 14 and 15 we have researched and investigated the need to align both public opinion with staff trust. The political landscape is the basis for healthcare policy, guidance, state, local, and community support (both fiscal and legal) engaging in political trade-offs to stabilize the healthcare industry (such as in the cost, pharmaceuticals, insurance premiums, and organizational ROI in the healthcare industry). Healthcare organizations must provide the necessary guidance and advocacy for stakeholders in the setting of both state and federal legislature as a voice of reason, authority, and integrity.

  • Research a policy associated with the Affordable Care Act in your home state or another state that may affect healthcare reform and/or the way health care is provided in the chosen state.
  • Describe the policy and who wrote and/or promoted the policy legislature (provide statistical data).
  • What are the trade-offs offered to bring balance to the healthcare stakeholders?
  • What role have public perception and disinterestedness played in the valuation of healthcare performance?
  • Describe how process innovation, risk taking, health policy analysis, and governance “sense-making” provide balance for stakeholders.

Feasibility Study Concept Draft

The Concept is a draft version of your final version of your feasibility study, The Feasibility of a Patient-Centered Self-Management System to Improve Patient Outcomes and Continued Care, with the initial list of relevant scholarly sources.

You must include a preliminary Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis for The Feasibility of a Patient-Centered Self-Management System to Improve Patient Outcomes and Continued Care. Also, view the Feasibility Study Template (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNsimuW0dJU) video and view the online article “Community Assessment,” (https://ctb.ku.edu/en/table-of-contents/assessment/assessing-community-needs-and-resources/swot-analysis/main) both of which include specific information on elements of the SWOT analysis required for your draft.

In this draft, be certain to include and (at least) briefly address the content of the headings listed below in three to four pages:

Evaluating Feasibility
The concept of a feasibility study is central to viability, the “worth to the effort” ratio, and return on investment (ROI). What needs to be taken into consideration to create a feasibility study (e.g., human resources, community needs, and technological advances, federal and state regulatory issues)?  Within this section, you will research and design an economical health care service that is responsive to a given market. This research stems from understanding your target population and present need in health services.

Strategic Effect
Analyze the role of public policy with regard to your project. What policies and processes should be in place to create an effective program? How will you measure the effectiveness of your program and your provision of health care services?

Market Analysis
Within this section you will identify the population demographics, who your competitors are, and whether or not a real need for the services you are proposing exists in the community. As you examine the demographic and population needs using Census data and other reliable sources, you must also consider what competitors, if any, exist in the present climate.

Financial Analysis
This section includes the revenue, expenses, and net income. Compare and contrast economic challenges and incentives by finding and describing multiple sources of public and private funding (e.g., grants, donations, awards, special projects) for this project. Specify the internal ramifications of moving forward using SWOT analysis.

Operations Performance
This section examines the incremental effect of how your proposed service will impact all aspects of health services. Illustrate the incentives and challenges faced by a health organization and communicate the relevance of economics within the U.S. health care system as it pertains to your proposed services.
Inpatient
If your proposed study has an inpatient component, this section will analyze on volume of patients, types of payers, and how utilization rates impact your proposed study. In addition, you will further explain how your new inpatient service will add value for patients and improve the financial viability of the institution.

Outpatient
If your proposed study has an outpatient component, examine how admissions, revenue, and workflow of staff will improve the efficiency of your proposed service. Analyze how your outpatient service will add value for patients and improve the financial viability of the institution. Justify your plan with appropriate data.

Outlook
This section examines future implications of your proposed services and how they will impact the future health outcomes of the community and financial health of the services being provided. Analyze economic theories that are germane to the provision of your proposed health services. What adjustments might you need to make in terms of what the “unintended consequences” may be? For example, Baylor Hospital in Houston proposed and spent 250 million to create a brand new hospital that currently stands empty because it was built during the U.S. economic downturn, the loan was no longer able to finance the construction, and the initial examination of its necessity did not play out as expected. Provide conclusions and implications of how your feasibility study fits within the larger context of the system of services currently being provided. How do they work with one another within the larger health care system?
Conclusion

Evaluate how your study will respond to market and design models that impact the community based on current regulatory and market needs.

Professional goals

1. What are your specific professional goals? How would the Saint Leo University Master of Social Work Program, with its emphasis on advanced clinical practice, help you to achieve your goals

2. Please describe how you will complete the normal daytime work hours for internships.

3. What particular personal strengths do you bring to the social work profession? What limitations do you perceive you have? How have both been demonstrated?

4.What other personal or professional experiences or qualities do you see as aiding you in your goals?

I just need all these questions answered to the best of your ability in a 3 page assignment. double spaced 12 pt. font.

Within 3-4 days.

Ethical Considerations

The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on and analyze ethical considerations when working with families of children with special needs.

Directions:

  1. Using the course content and the steps to ethical problem solving here (https://www.naswma.org/page/100/Essential-Steps-for-Ethical-Problem-Solving.htm) complete a problem-solving approach to two of the case studies.

  • Case Study #1: The IEP deadline for Gerald is on Monday and his parents are not free to meet until the following Friday.  You’ve tried contacting them by phone for two weeks and planned to meet on Monday without them.  They have a desire to attend the meeting but had some problems with their phone.  They are just now calling you at the end of the day on Friday.  What should you do?

  • Case Study #2: The IEP team at your school decided that Sally would be best suited in a self-contained classroom.  After you share your recommendation with the parents, her mother expresses her relief to find that there are solutions to help her daughter.  However, Sally’s father becomes irate and yells at the mother for producing an idiot child.  He said that no daughter of his will go to the “dumb class” and then he storms out.  What should you do?

Then, analyze this ethical dilemma and attempt to find a resolution for each.

Write a reflection based on your analysis and solution to each ethical dilemma. Make sure to include what was violated and suggestions and strategies to ensure ethical practice when working with families. Revise and edit your work before submitting it.

Creative Project

Please respond with your Creative Topic before doing assignment so I can submit topic to the Professor to see if she approves the chosen topic. Your topic proposal should include the following information: (1) an emergency or disaster topic idea that we haven’t discussed at length in class, (2) the phase of emergency management you’d like to focus on, and (3) the style of media you intend to create for your project.

Creative Project

The creative project allows students to do just that- be creative. Students are tasked with constructing a piece of literature that inspires thoughtful discourse about a facet of emergency management, using either a fiction or nonfiction example. Students are free to conduct a project on whatever topic they see fit, following approval from the instructor Specific topics already discussed in class (for example, doomsday preppers) are not eligible for this project. Any outside sources or information you utilize must be cited in APA format.

Here are a few additional parameters for your creative projects:

Restive Project should be 6-8 pages long, double-spaced, and written in APA format. You must cite (in APA format) any outside resources or examples of media you might reference.  If I have approved the medium or style of your project via the topic approval portal, then that project is acceptable. I will not accept creative projects without an approved topic.

Creative Project Rubric: Your projects will be evaluated for their creativity, content/depiction of fiction or nonfiction media, relevancy or application of a specific topic, and the project’s relation to emergency management. Every project must focus on a topic within the context of a phase (or phases) of emergency management.

Additional parameters on the creative project:

As you identify topics of interest for your projects, please keep the following thoughts in mind:

  • It’s up to you to create a new piece of “disaster media”. This is different from the critiques, where we analyze existing work, and apply principles of emergency management to better understand each phase of EM. For example, because I’m interested in oral histories, I could decide to put together a work on interviewing people in my area who remember impacts from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
  • Based on the same previous example, I could go from there and decide that I wanted to focus my work on the “response” phase of EM. I recommend focusing on one phase of EM, in order to limit the scope of your project- otherwise, it’s possible to start a huge project with no definitive scope or purpose.
  • Your chosen topic may be fictional or non-fictional. Whichever product you elect to create, ensure that it is robust and professional in both content and delivery.

Keep in mind, your creative project should be a stand-alone piece of disaster media. It should not simply critique an existing piece of media- that is why we conduct the critiques!

Identities

Week One Journal

Your identity consists of multiple dimensions, which we might also call group memberships. Some of the most salient of these identities include your race, ethnicity, gender, social class, sexuality, physical and mental ability, nationality, and/or religion. Take a look at The diversity wheel (Links to an external site.) for a visual representation of all of the identities you might potentially have. Those at the center of the circle usually have the greatest impact on one’s life chances and are most immediately visible to the rest of society.

For this journal assignment, you will explore your own identities by addressing the following:

Considering at least three of your core identities, give an example of how each impacts (or is noticeable in) your daily life.

Of the identities you listed above, which has contributed most to your overall identity?  Does the identity you feel is most significant in your life vary depending on the social context you may be in? In other words, does the identity you feel is most important vary throughout the day depending on the social situation you are in? Be sure to explain why or why not.

Thinking about these three identities, do you feel that your membership in these groups leads you to experience certain privileges or certain inequalities in our society? Give examples of these privileges and/or inequalities.

The following short videos may help you address these questions:

Identities & Inequalities (Links to an external site.)

Race, Class, Gender & Sexuality (Links to an external site.)

What is Privilege? (Links to an external site.)

This journal assignment should be two to three pages in length. You should integrate concepts from the week’s resources you reviewed, while also providing examples from your personal experiences that help support your ideas. Journal assignments provide you the opportunity to focus on exploring your own ideas rather than simply repeating the speaker’s ideas.
