Assignment: Planning A Needs Assessment II

One of the many reasons social workers conduct needs assessment is to provide support for new programs. Social workers have many methods available to collect necessary data for a needs assessment.

Social workers can use existing data from a wide range of sources, including local and national reports by government and nonprofit agencies, as well as computerized mapping resources. Social workers can gather new data through interviews and surveys with individuals and focus groups. This data can provide the evidence that supports the need for the program.

To prepare for this Assignment, review the needs assessment plans that you and your classmates generated for this week’s Discussion. Also, review the logic models that you created in Week 7 and any literature on needs of caregivers that you used to generate them. Consider the following to stimulate your thinking:

Getting information about the needs of the target population:

Who would informants be?

What is your purpose for interacting with them?

What questions would you ask?

What method would you use (interview, focus group, questionnaire)?

Finding potential clients:

  • Who would informants be?

What is your purpose for interacting with them?

  • What questions would you ask?
    • What method would you use?
    • What method would you use?
  •  Interacting with the target population:
  • Who would informants be?
  •  What is your purpose for interacting with them?

What questions would you ask?

What method would you use?

Submit a 2- to 3-page paper outlining a hypothetical needs assessment related to the support group program for caregivers. Include the following:

  • The resources needed to operate this service
  • The program activities
  • The desired outcomes
  •  A plan for gathering information about the population served
  • Justifications for your plans and decisions
  • A one-paragraph conclusion describing how you might conduct a follow-up to the needs assessment at the implementation stage of the program evaluation

Pharmacological And Physiological Antagonism

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the required chapters from the text and review the required articles for this week. Alcohol and caffeine have nearly opposite effects on behavior and the nervous system, yet these substances are not used to treat overdose or addiction to the other. Why not use caffeine to treat alcohol addiction? Analyze the issues of pharmacological and physiological antagonism. Explain the receptor systems involved and the central nervous system structures effects with regard to this question. Frame your analysis in terms of drug action first and other consequences second.

Case Studies Final

For your Final Project, you will select three case studies from the given set. Each case scenario represents a different type of offender  (e.g., mentally disordered offender, sex offender, violent offender, family violence  offender, female offender, white-collar criminal, cybercriminal, or terrorist).
For each case, you will:

  1. Apply a specific theoretical approach to the criminal       behaviors displayed in each case.
  2. Determine if the crime or crimes presented would be categorized       as expressive or instrumental. Explain your rationale.
  3. Evaluate whether developmental risk factors and       correlates of criminal behavior influence criminal behavior. Evaluate       whether the offender in each case scenario is a criminal.
Note: Although assessment is an       integral step in the tasks you complete in this Final Project, for the       purposes of this course and Final Project, you will not assess the       offenders in the case scenarios you select.

Your Final Project may be presented via one of the following  options:

  • A 10- to 12-page (not       including references, title page, or abstract), double-spaced,       APA-formatted paper.
  • attachment

What should you do when, shortly after treatment has terminated, the client calls and suggests that you purchase season tickets for a series of theatrical performances?

Socw 6510 Week 7 Assignment 2 Practice Problem

Evidence based practice is essential to effective social work practice. For this assignment, you are required to (a) identify a current practice problem relevant in your current agency (i.e., engaging clients when they don’t talk much, having negative perceptions about your client, counter), (b) after identifying your practice problem, conduct an extensive literature search as it relates to your practice problem that provides you with a complete understanding of the practice problem.

Based on your findings in the literature, what did you discover that will help you address your practice problem? How might your research guide your work in your field agency?  After reviewing the literature/research and comparing it to the practice problem, the student is expected to do the following:

By Day 7

Submit a 1-2 page reflection paper that:

  1. Briefly discusses the literature
  2. Briefly identifies the practice problem
  3. Briefly explains how the literature will be used to address the practice problem while engaging in the agency.

NOTE: The goal is for you and the Field Instructor to have an open discussion regarding your identified problem while discussing evidenced based solutions to address them. Your field instructor will be evaluating your ability to demonstrate your competency in their field evaluation. In addition, you will submit this assignment for classroom credit. The Field Liaison will grade the assignment “PASS/FAIL,” see rubric for passing criteria.

SOCW -6111 Week 1, Discussion 2

Discussion 2: Integrating Theory and Practice

As a social work student, it is important to understand the need for theory-informed practice. As you assess, intervene, and evaluate in your practice, theory is an essential foundation for clinical social work. The use of theory to inform and guide your practice is what establishes you as a professional. In working with clients, you should always be aware of the underlying theory of your clinical approach. Through this course, you will develop the ability to better articulate the theoretical base by which you choose your interventions. You will use theory in every decision you make as it guides you through your practice. Additionally, identifying the theories in assessing and creating change will make you a more confident and skilled social work practitioner.

By Day 4

Post  an analysis and description of the importance of the use of theory in clinical practice. Then describe how the use of theory relates to the social issue you presented in your Introductory Video for this week’s Assignment.

13. Many clients who receive social welfare services experience poverty. Poverty means the household income is not adequate compared to a certain standard. The federal government established the Federal Poverty Income Limit (FPIL) every year; which determines the amount of income required for individuals and families to satisfy their minimum living needs. In order to qualify for many social services resources, people have to meet the federal poverty guidelines by having income limits within the FPIL. The FPIL for 48 states was $11,670 annually per person and $23,850 for a family of four in 2014. Identify whether you feel the federal poverty guidelines are accurate or fair. Explain whether or not you agree with them.
