You are the social worker with the child within the video, ReMoved. In your role, you must assess what next steps will be in the best interest of the child, and you will have to present your assessment to a foster care court judge. Given that your decisions will have an impact on the child, you will also need to include a historical context for your professional opinion. The judge will make a determination regarding parental rights, as well as placement options, based on your professional assessment.

1. Discuss and identify the various theories and the components of the theories that need to be considered within your work with the child. Please include specific concepts from your readings or lectures as your support and include at least TWO theories. You must identify and define the concepts and propositions connected to those theories that help to support your assessment (ex: behavioral theory, cognitive behavioral theory, systems perspective, etc.)

2. Be sure to specify the stage of development that you consider is most important within the child’s history and discuss why the stage is important. Utilize theory to support your assessment here as well.

3. Identify risk and protective factors that may present issues in your work with the child. Present ways to overcome the impact of those factors and identify which theories support your perspective.

DATA ANALYSIS PROJECT-1: DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

Following the steps below, write a 3-4-page data analysis report. It is important to include data excerpts in your report when analyzing and discussing your data.

STEP-I: Watch the following two video clips. While watching, take notes on:

• The situation, context, participants, etc.

• Wallace’s use of certain words and their link to identity

• Her use of language and its link to ideologies and language ideologies

• The construction of the humorous performance by the Singer through the use of Wallace’ words used by the singer. Take into consideration multifunctionality, intertextuality

• Its link to societal beliefs and race relations

Video link-1: Watch from 0 to min 4 only. If you would like to watch it fully, that is also fine.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIXlBat62eU

Video link-2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zulEMWj3sVA

STEP-II: Your data analysis report will respond to the following questions. However, you do not need to include question numbers in your writing. Write it in paragraph form instead.

Q-1: How language is used to index identities and create and/or maintain boundaries? (i.e. sameness vs. differences, “us” vs. “them”, who is the “us” and “them”) by Wallace and the Singer? Link this to language as social action, practice, and multifunctionality.

Q-2: How does language give us cues about speaker’s ideologies? What are the language ideologies and/or general ideologies that they convey in their performances? Link this to language as social action and language ideologies from the chapter and other writings.

Q-3: How did the singer construct his humorous performance through picking up the words of Wallace? Discuss the circulation of words and discourse? Link this to intertextuality, practice, and multifunctionality discussed in the chapter.

3-4 page, double-spaced. 1inch margins. Introduction, data analysis paragraphs, discussions of your findings, and conclusion.

For this post, use the case of Nellie Bowman or Mary Melody to develop an intervention plan that is based on a chosen theory. Our text and research demonstrate multiple methods and concepts concerning theory. Choose one of the methods or concepts within the text to support your application of theory to Nellie or Mary.

Start by reviewing the cases:

The Case of Mary Melody

Mary Melody is a 46-year-old married woman with two children, ages 23 and 25. “I’ve been sad for most of my life. I’ve just felt down for as long as I can remember. I’ve been thinking of suicide on and off since I was 16 years old,” she said. Mary goes on to say that she hates everything about herself: how she looks, how she talks, and how she acts around other people. She feels most comfortable in her room curled up in bed with the shades drawn and the lights out. “My kids are grown and they really don’t need me. You might say my work in that department is done. They turned out okay but I just feel really hopeless. Now that the birds have left the nest, I don’t have much of a purpose,” she adds.

The Case of Nellie Bowman

Nellie Bowman is a 25-year-old graduate student. She starts her conversation with you by stating, “You know, I’ve lived a pretty normal life. Of course I’ve had the usual ups and downs. Then it happened. One night after a party, I came back to my apartment and I guess I forgot to lock the door. Some guy must have followed me. I woke up and he had a knife at my throat. My life flashed before my eyes. I don’t really remember what happened next, but I remember jumping on the bed and screaming and he ran from the room. I called my roommate and she came right back to the apartment. I called my parents and the police. Filed the report, they didn’t find the guy, but we changed all the locks and I thought I’d put it behind me. Then six months later, I woke up in the middle of the night and had this vague feeling of apprehension. All of a sudden my heart started pounding. Like I was having a heart attack. I started sweating and my chest hurt something awful. Right these and then I thought I was dying. It was really weird. I ran to my roommate’s room, but it felt like I was moving in slow motion. It was like I was detached from the whole thing. Right away she called the ambulance. When they checked me out at the hospital the docs said I was just fine. Now I’m a little scared to be by myself for too long. Good thing I have my roommate. I’m afraid it might happen again.”

For your discussion post:

  1. Identify the case you have chosen to review and the diagnosis you would provide to either Nellie or Mary.
  2. Provide your rationale for the diagnosis.
  3. Discuss an intervention plan using the generalist intervention model that addresses the micro, mezzo, and macro systems. What kind of therapy would you provide this client, what kind of intervention would you provide for the family, and the community?

Where Is The Social Justice In Criminal Justice

The U.S. justice system is often cited as being unjust. Specifically, people of color are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system with over 58% of prisoners identified as African American or Hispanic, despite accounting for only 25% of the general population (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People [NAACP], 2016). Estimates suggest one out of three African American men will experience imprisonment in their lifetime (NAACP, 2016). The impacts of incarceration extend past release, as a felony conviction limits voting rights and creates difficulties in finding employment and housing. What are the reasons for the occurrence of these racial and ethnic disparities?

In this Discussion, you consider how institutional discrimination may be a factor influencing these statistics and how the intersection of poverty impacts both crime and victims. In addition, you provide ideas about how to address issues related to social justice that may have contributed to the criminal behavior.

Two examples of the impact of race, ethnicity, and/or socioeconomic status in the criminal justice system.

Why Social Workers Document

Imagine you are working with an established client. The client’s appointment is late in the evening, and you are tired when it ends. You normally take notes during the session and then submit the electronic documentation immediately afterward, when it is fresh in your mind. This time, however, you tell yourself, “It can wait until tomorrow.”

Tomorrow comes, and you forget to submit the documentation. Such an oversight could have ramifications for you as a social worker, for the client, and for the agency. How will you safeguard against poor documentation practices?

you consider the negative effects of improper documentation and potential strategies for documenting correctly.

  • Identify two reasons why it is important for social workers to have strong documentation skills
  • Describe a situation when improper documentation could have a negative impact on the client.
  • Describe a situation when improper documentation could have a negative impact on the agency.
  • Identify a strategy for addressing improper documentation, and describe how you would implement this strategy.

Confidentiality And Mandate Reporting

Chances are someone has asked you to keep a secret at some point in your life. But what if that secret involved someone harming themselves or another person who was in immediate danger? Would you feel compelled to tell?

Thankfully, this question of when to divulge information to outside parties is not a mystery in social work. There are strict laws that govern when a social worker must report to authorities a client’s disclosures. At the beginning of treatment, the social worker should inform the client of these limits to confidentiality in order to avoid any confusion or feelings of distrust.

In this Discussion, you examine the requirements of mandated reporting and your views about confidentiality.

  • Describe at least two circumstances when you are legally mandated to break client confidentiality and disclose selected privileged information without the client’s consent.
  • Identify a time when someone broke your confidence, and explain how it made you feel.
  • Describe how your experiences related to confidentiality have shaped your view on mandate reporting.
