Transition From Childhood To Adolescnce

The transition from childhood through adolescence is not a smooth one, especially in regards to the physiological, cognitive and psychosocial challenges a young individual faces. Using sources like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health research some of the major issues adolescents may face during this developmental period. Based on your course readings thus far, explain the issues you found and how it relates to adolescence development.

Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings.

Assignment – Week 3

Application: Applying Career Ethics in Practice

In this week’s discussion forum, you compared the current NCDA ethical standards with the ethical standards most closely associated with your discipline (either ACA or APA). In this Application assignment, you will apply this knowledge to your future work with clients.

To prepare for this assignment:

· Review the chapter on Ethics from the course textbook, along with the current NCDA Code of Ethics and the Code of Ethics most closely associated with your discipline (ACA or APA).

· Recall the material you developed in your Week 1 Application on the topic of self-assessments.

· Consider the type of clients you might work with who might present with issues related to career.

The assignment: (1–2 pages)

· Create a “mock” client that you can describe in one paragraph, including the client’s current goals, resources, and their Self-Directed Search (SDS) type code.

· Discuss how you as a counselor would ethically work with this client, including administration of and follow-up steps after the SDS.

· Include specific relevant ethical standards from the NCDA code and from the ethical code most closely associated with your discipline (ACA or APA).

Support your Application assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the Learning Resources for this course.

Read both articles, and then discuss how the field of neuroscience has changed over the past several decades in terms of the methods of available to neuroscientists, culminating in the exciting methods shown in this module’s TED Talks (see the “Advances in Neuroscience” content). How have these newer methods such as optogenetics improved upon “classic” methods such as electrolytic lesions?

SEC-501 Week 2 Paper

The purpose of this assignment is to explore approaches to instruction that support adolescents’ physical, cognitive, or socioemotional growth and to understand the unique challenges adolescents face with regards to classroom learning.

Respond to each of the following scenarios with a 500-750 word rationale. Your response to each scenario should include the following:

  • Assessment of developmental characteristics of adolescent behaviors.
  • Explanation of specific challenges the student is facing, based on developmental characteristics and behaviors.
  • Approaches to instruction that promotes the physical, cognitive, or socioemotional development of each student.
  • Opportunities to facilitate learning with the use of technology.

Scenario #1

Marco is a senior in one of your classes. He has appeared to be depressed, showing signs of sadness, self-criticism, and hopelessness. As a result, his grades have dropped. You are considering whether to use the Response to Intervention approach to provide more guided, supportive instruction to Marco.

Explain how and why you might use Response to Intervention (RTI) to support Marco’s learning in your classroom. Offer specific intervention strategies and steps you will take, including the use of technology in your response.

Scenario #2

Megan, a sophomore in one of your classes, has been struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependency for the last year. She is now on an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Tasks that involve memory and retention of information pose a challenge for her.

Explain how you might help Megan in the classroom by supporting her capacity to remember/retain information, enhance her study skills, and organize and process her thoughts.

What strategies might you use to support her learning? Explain why you selected these strategies. Include the use of a technological tool as a means of supporting her learning in your response.

Support your findings with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

Discussion 3 – How the Brain Constructs the Perceptual World

Discussion 3 – How the Brain Constructs the Perceptual World

Step 1: Watch the following video: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/that-dress-isnt-blue-or-gold-because-color-doesnt-exist

Step 2: Review the published evidence:

Step 3: Address the following questions in discussion in one paragraph for each of the three question items:

Questions

1. Look closely at the rainbow (visual spectrum) at the top of this week’s guide and ask yourself if any colors are missing. When you find a missing color, present a description or an illustration that shows the color. If you can explain why the color is absent from the spectrum, do so in a paragraph.

2.  Judging from the resources in Steps 1 and 2, can we believe our senses? Where do individual differences seem to arise in the way we perceive the world?

3. Describe the combined roles of vision and the vestibular apparatus in a coordinated act in sports, such as a second baseman’s double play, a pole vault, or a turnaround jump shot. What are the differences and similarities in the roles of the two senses?

Change Leadership

Organizational Development (OD) is a method organizations use to manage change. OD implements change in an organization by using the action research (AR) model to identify a problem, plan change, implement interventions, and evaluate the success of the change process. Two key tenets of the AR model are:

  1. Involve those doing the work (e.g., employees, stakeholders) in the change planning, implementation, and review.
  2. Create a cyclical OD process whereby results from one cycle (i.e., evaluation) becomes part of the input for the next cycle (i.e., identify problem)

To begin this week’s section of the final project, briefly review your chosen organization (LIFE COACH SCHOOL OF ARKANSAS) . Presume that the reader does not know the identity of your organization or what you have evaluated thus far. What is the essential information the reader should know? This section of your paper should be a very brief summary, likely no more than three or four sentences. Be sure to provide an appropriate APA introduction to your paper.

Next, describe one or two recent change events that have occurred in your subject organization.

  • What was the planned change?
  • How well did the change effort work?
  • Using research in organizational and leadership literature, evaluate the change event.
    • What mistakes were made?
    • What key lessons can you summarize from your evaluation of the past event?

Next, research the literature on change leadership. Defend a change leadership action plan that your organization should implement to create positive change outcomes and reduce or virtually eliminate resistance to change. Be sure to support your plan with research.

Next, assess strategic steps to leverage insights from the employees at different levels of the organization in every stage of the change process. Be sure to support your strategic steps with research.

Finally, justify how your proposed change process for the organization aligns to the organizational values.

Memory And Brain Mechanisms Paper

The goal of this paper is to understand how the brain and memory processes are intertwined and how certain techniques can improve these processes. In an essay of 1,000-1,250 words, discuss how memories are formed and maintained in the brain through the actions of neural circuitry. Use at least four scholarly resources to address the following questions:

  1. Theoretically, how is working memory similar to and different from long-term memory?
  2. How are memories formed in the brain (using neural circuitry), and how are they maintained?
  3. When is it adaptive to remember, and in what ways may it be adaptive to forget?
  4. Given what we know about brain mechanisms in memory, are our memories accurate? Explain your answer using information on how memories are stored in the brain.
  5. How can knowledge of the brain and memory systems be used to help individuals suffering from memory problems (e.g., poor memory, amnesia, PTSD)?
  6. Compare the role age and environment play in how memories are formed and maintained.
